Sydney Driveway Paving

What you need to know before paving your driveway

Paving your Sydney driveway will require different approaches depending on how you will use it and how it is situated to ensure you can enjoy it for decades.

Use these tips from experienced Sydney paving experts to steer you in the right direction about how to design your driveway.

1.  It’s important to select the right type of pavers

With such a wide variety of paving materials, knowing which is best for your situation and budget can be a challenge. Concrete, asphalt, natural stone, and pavers look great in the driveway when laid professionally.

Asphalt paving is an excellent choice if you need a big area covered but have a strict budget. It will enhance your property and will last decades when well-maintained. It’s resistant to cracks and flexible enough to handle heavy traffic and vehicles.

Pavers are available in an almost limitless selection of colours, so you can perfectly match the aesthetics of your property. Concrete pavers are also durable enough to handle heavy loads without breaking or cracking.

Concrete is another excellent choice for handling heavy loads when adequately reinforced. And if you are after a different look than plain concrete, you can have your driveway stamped, coloured,  and polished to achieve the desired finish.

2.  Ensure your driveway has adequate drainage

Poor drainage will cause even the best-laid driveways to crumble and erode, especially during Sydney’s wet summers. A good driveway design uses the surrounding landscape to ensure water drains away from the driveway and into the storm drainage system.

3.  Sealing and maintenance is crucial

Regardless of your surface, your driveway requires occasional maintenance to ensure long service life. Concrete pavers will maintain their colour and resist stains with regular sealing. Concrete and asphalt driveways will also benefit from sealing to protect them from water damage, oil stains, and spills.

Keep an eye on your driveway for signs of any issues, like buckling or potholes. These issues can be caused by tree roots or soil erosion. Sorting these problems immediately is the best way to ensure they don’t grow into expensive repairs or complete driveway resurfacing.

4.  Don’t forget about regular cleaning

An annual sealant application offers excellent protection for your pavers but can only do so much. Always clean up any spills immediately to prevent permanent stains you’ll have to look at for the life of your driveway.
